Client: ’s Heeren Loo
’s Heeren Loo Zorggroep helps people with a mental disability to live their lives in the way they want. They do this throughout the Netherlands, with assistance that ranges from light support at home, to intensive 24-hour care at residential locations. Their service has a very special professional and personal value. The ‘s Heeren Loo mission is: Enhance the lives of people with a mental disability.
‘s Heeren Loo Zorggroep wanted to enable people with a mental disability to use Internet applications in a safe environment, adapted to the capability of each client. That is how they came up with JIP, ‘Your Internet Portal'.
Finalist built this platform for ‘s Heeren Loo to make it easy and safe for people with a mental disability to use Internet applications. The specially developed interface supports touchscreen operation, log-in with PictoPin, and even one-button operation for people with limited motor functions.
The portal offers mainly entertainment, and additional functionalities with informative and communicative apps will be added. This target group is now able, in a private and secure environment, to experience entertainment, educational programs and music on the Internet. Viewing photos that relatives share with them does a lot to make these people feel more involved. JIP has since won the Intra.NET 2014 award in Berlin. Additionally, this project was nominated for the Computable Award 2015, in the ‘ICT project of the year in healthcare’ category.
On 30 September and 1 October 2014, we celebrated the introduction of JIP at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. On those days, 240 clients were introduced to the portal, assisted by 240 KPN volunteers.
